7 Energy-Boosting Strategies

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

Our calendars have a way of quickly becoming overwhelming at this festive time of year. Coping with a demanding schedule and the ensuing stress requires a lot of energy. If you are dragging yourself through your work, family, and other daily commitments each day longing for the moment you can crash in an exhausted heap onto your bed, then take these tips to keep your energy level up!

1. Feel berry energetic
Berries are rich in antioxidants and can also help remove toxic residue from the system, which is often the cause of chronic fatigue and low energy. Berries include blueberries, blackberries, raspberry, cranberry, goji berry, hawthorn berries and cherries.

2. Make the most of magnesium
Every time your body produces energy, your cells’ mitochondria, which are tiny “power generators”, need magnesium. Many people don’t get enough of this essential mineral, because two common dietary habits leach magnesium from our bodies: too much salt and too much dairy. Whole grains are full of magnesium. So are seeds such as pumpkin, sesame, and sunflower seeds. And don’t forgetabout nuts-especially almonds, Brazil nuts, and cashews. If you prefer capsule form, try taking 500 mg magnesium daily.

Combine the best of berries and nuts by making your own trail mix of dried cranberry, plum, and raisin with any combination of nuts and seeds. It’s an ideal between-meals snack packed with antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and fibers that help sustain energy over a long period of time.

3. Food that fights fatigue
Poor diet is a big contributor to low energy. For steady, robust energy eat foods that are low on the glycemic index, a measurement of how quickly the food you eat converts to glucose, the substance your body needs for energy. Foods with a high glycemic index (HGI), such as bread, pasta, baked potatoes, and most refined grains, give you a quick rush, but fatigue soon sets in when your blood sugar crashes. Foods that are low on the glycemic index help sustain energy over time. That include barley, bulgur, quinoa, amaranth, most nuts and seeds, beans and legumes, chicken, fish, and meat.

Avoid an energy crash by eliminating sugar from your diet, including sodas, sweetened juices, and pastries. Also cut back on rich foods like dairy, meat, fats, sweets, and alcohol. As for when to eat, never skip breakfast or lunch and be sure to eat your last meal no later than 7 p.m. most of the time.

4. Get green energy
Chlorella, spirulina, kelp, wheat grass, barley grass all contain chlorophyll and are high quality protein supplements that enhance long-term energy. Mix a powder of any of the above into water, juice, or green tea for an energetic boost.

5. Ginseng: a potent pick-me-up
Ginseng is considered the king of energy tonics and has been used in Chinese medicine for 5,000 years. Unlike coffee, which stimulates the central nervous system, ginseng elevates energy gently. It has been classified as an adaptogen, meaning that it helps the immune system to withstand stress from the environment, and many people that take ginseng report an overall sense of well-being. It is available in the form of capsules and tea in health food stores, atoffices of Chinese medicine practitioners, and online.

Another herbal energy enhancer is our Combined Five Elements of Health Formula. This powerful herbal combination gives your whole body a tune-up, promoting physical vitality, high tolerance for stress, and strong immunity, among many other benefits.

6. Increase your energy with exercise
Exercise every day can help you increase your energy level, cope with stress, and improve your mood. A daily 30-minute cardiovascular exercise combined with stretching and flexibility training is a sure way to get abundant energy.

If you are intimidated by jumping right into exercise, begin with a daily walking routine. Start small and slowly increase the amount of time you walk. Walk 10 minutes a day for one week. Walk 15 minutes a day on week two, and so on until by week five, you are walking 30 minutes a day. In the meantime, a walk around the block builds your energy level as it clears your mind!

7. Press here for energy

In Chinese medicine, there is an acupuncture point called Foot Three Mile that can be stimulated to help strengthen the body‚Äôs resistance to stress, enhance immunity, and strengthen the vital organs. You can stimulate the same acupuncture point on yourself with a technique called “acupressure.” Instead of a needle stimulating the point, you can use your own fingers. The point is located four finger-widths below the kneecap on the right leg. Apply moderate pressure with your thumb until you feel soreness. Hold for 3-5 minutes. Repeat on the left leg.

Protocol Supplements presents

Organic Fruits and Vegetables

Are you getting the 9 servings of ORGANIC fruits and vegetables you need in your diet every day?
Well … now you can with

without tasting like you just ate a pile of grass.

TBGreens taste like a dessert but its flavor is obtained by careful blending of greens and fruits.

Just one scoop exceeds the nutritional equivalent of TWENTY servings of fruits and vegetables.

The average American diet consists of meat, bread, cheese, coffee, chocolate, sugar, milk, cereal, cookies, flour – you name it all ACID-FORMING foods.

In fact, all the food we crave is acid-forming, and acidification of the body fluids and tissues is linked to EVERY KNOWN DISEASE.

When your body is overly acidic, you become vulnerable to germs, yeast, bacteria, molds, and fungi.

These microorganisms thrive in an acidic environment.

We just cannot live in America and not expect
to be nutritionally depleted
!

WE ARE DIGGING OUR OWN
GRAVES WITH OUR TEETH

What is the opposite of acidic foods? Alkaline foods. What are alkaline foods?

They are the green, leafy vegetables and colorful fruits that were put here for us to enjoy.

Most of us eat 80% acidic foods and 20% alkaline foods and we need to reverse the trend 180 degrees.

So now what? Eat salads all day?

NO!

We simply cannot expect to give everything up.

The answer is this:

We have known for years that an alkalizing greens drink was what was missing from our health regime, but we just could not seem to choke down the ones we had sampled. They either tasted like the stuff cows love to eat-or-it was like licking the bottom of a lawn mower ….

Mechanically extracted SDG Flax Lignans
(secoisolariciresinol diglucoside)

Lignans are a group of phytonutrients (plant chemicals)
which are found in seeds and grains. Flax seed is by far nature?s richest source of plant lignans.

Other sources of lignans such as rye, buckwheat, millet, soya and barley, yield 2 to 6 micrograms of lignans per gram of grain.

Flax seed yields an extraordinary 800 micrograms. While the essential fatty acids are in the oil of the flax seed, the lignans are found in the fiber shell of the seed. The oil contains less than 2% of the flax seed lignans.

It takes nearly twenty five pounds of flax seed to produce
just 4 ounces of flax lignans. Until recently, SDG existed in such small concentrations that no one was fully aware of its miraculous qualities.

While the oil in the flaxseed is a big percentage of the seed, the SDG lignan is but a small fraction of the seed composition.

Modern extraction methods have brought to light the tremendous health benefits associated with lignans.

These amazing lignan compounds have shown such extraordinary potential that they have been studied by the National Cancer Institute for their cancer preventative properties.

The SDG lignan not only has anti-cancer properties, it also has anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties. It has been shown to enhance immune system functioning, and is effective against many different diseases.

Since 1995 we have seen several health products with the word ‘lignan’ on the label. Names such as ‘High Lignan Flax Seed Oil’ or something similar. But when these products were tested by North Dakota University, they contained practically no lignans at all. That is expected since the lignans are not in the oil.

Other flax oil products state that they contain a certain percentage of lignan particulates, ex. ’20% lignan particulates’.

This does not mean it contains 20% lignans. This means that 20% of the product is made up of pieces of the flax fiber shell which contain the lignans.

But since the fiber meal consists of about 1.6% lignans, such a product would contain only .35% lignans.

Other products say they have ‘up to 30% more lignans than whole flax seed’. These are essentially products consisting mostly of the defatted flax fiber without the oil.

There is no concentration or extract of lignans. Such a product thus contains about 1.6% lignans.

Due to the tremendous health benefits lignans have to offer, many health companies have tried to capitalize by offering lignan products.

They were able to get the word lignan on the label, but little of it in the product.

The difficulty in offering flax lignans lies in the process of separating the SDG lignan from the flax seed hull, which adheres tightly to the embryo. We put over 200mg of flax lignans per serving in pure

TOTAL BODY GREENS

with MANGOSTEEN

How are the lignans extracted?

One process developed by the University of Toronto uses chemicals such as methanol, petroleum ether, chloroform, sodium methoxide and sulfuric acid.

The process used to extract the flax lignans used in TOTAL BODY GREENS with MANGOSTEEN is ‘mechanical extraction’.

NO HARSH CHEMICALS

You are among the first in the world to have a greens drink with such beneficial ingredients blended within, while maintaining a delicious flavor.
