Michael Phelps vs. Kelloggs

Monday, February 16th, 2009

There isa funny thing about athletes and the way they are expected to behave when they reach a certain level of acclaim and fame. Take the case of Michael and one of his sponsors, Kelloggs. Now it is unfortunate that someone with a camera phone thought it would be a good idea to take the now infamous picture of him and sell it to the tabloids for an estimated $400. It was definitely a bone head maneuver on Michael’s part to pull a big fat bong rip where nosy cameras could capture his technique, and if he was concerned about the fallout from the pot, I think it would have been more with the drug testing he must comply with to stay eligible for competition than how his bong form was.

The real problem, and the reason for this rant, is not that Michael Phelps smoked some weed, he would have to deal with the consequences, it is the fact that Kelloggs doesn’t think that he portrays the right image anymore. This comes from a company that makes breakfast cereals with name like Pop Tarts, Frosted Flakes, Frosted Mini Wheats, and Fruit Loops. I used to smoke my share of weed and let me tell you, Kelloggs makes some of the finest stoner food known to mankind. But there is even a bigger problem with their distancing themselves from Phelps, that is the fact that the products listed above are a contributor to childhood obesity and possibly diabetes. Their products have to be fortified because the possess no nutritional value on the own. They are empty calories that only serve to diminish optimal health and spike insulin levels. Isn’t it

So the way I see it is Michael Phelps is a well liked and respected world class athlete that sets a very good and positive example for kids and adults on how with hard work and dedication toward a goal, great things can be accomplished. On the other hand, Kelloggs creates products that serve only to be a detriment to good health and are a go to food for the munchies by people who like to do what poor Michael was fired for. It’s a crazy world and a lot of times things don’t’ make sense, but use your own good judgement to see through this marketing horseshit and still cheer for Michael.

Protocol Supplements 60 Day Challenge-4 Week Update

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Well, I am into my 60 Day Challenge for about 4 weeks now and things are moving along very nicely. I have been able to step up the frequency and intensity of my workouts due to “The Protocol”. I am using the Nutrition Pack(Total Body Nutrient,Total Body Greens, and Omega 3&6s), Body Pro Strength and Muscle, Energized, and Stamina as my foundation. The rational behind it is that the Nutrition Pack give my body the highest level of quality ingredients and cellular absorption to support the accelerated rate of physical improvement that the other 3 products provide. This means as my body is changing, growing, and repairing, I have all the nutritional building blocks to make sure I recover and feed my body what it needs. That’s it for this update. Now go out and do something, anything, just get that body moving!

Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Omega 6 Fatty Acids

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Everyone knows that omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial for the health of your heart and your brain. But how many of us know anything about omega-6 fatty acids? And for that matter, how many of us know what the recommended intake ratio is for those two compounds? Most Americans consume omega-6s and omega-3s in a ratio of about 20:1. However, the ideal ratio of these two fatty acids is 4:1.

We all know how beneficial omega-3’s are, yet we never seem to incorporate enough of them into the diet we are consuming. And given that both fatty acids require the same enzymes to function properly, getting way more omega-6’s starves omega-3’s and promotes inflammation in the body. This in return contributes to heart disease, cancer, arthritis, and asthma. That is why it is very beneficial to keep these two compounds well balanced. In the next paragraph I will provide a few helpful tips on how to achieve a better balance of these two fatty acids.

The first step towards balancing your ratio of fatty acids is raising your intake of omega-3’s. You can easily achieve this by eating oily fish at least twice a week. You can also achieve this goal by taking 1,000 mg of high quality fish oil every day. The second step towards achieving a balance of fatty acids is lowering your intake of omega-6’s. Even though omega 6 fatty acids are very important because they support skin health, keep cholesterol levels in check, and help blood clot, we tend to consume too much of this particular compound. We can help lower our intake by avoiding vegetable-oil-laden processed foods. We can also work into our diet more naturally balanced foods such as hempseeds, chia seeds, flaxseeds and walnuts. There are numerous ways to improve your nutrition; from various herbal remedies to the consumption of whey protein. So the next time you hear someone talking about fatty acids, be sure to explain to them how to achieve a well balanced ratio of the two.

The Truth About Lactic Acid

Monday, February 16th, 2009

I have been listening to miss information having to do with Lactic Acid for years. The most common affect that is uttered, usually by people who have not read a book on physiology in the last 30 years, is that it is the cause of muscle soreness. It is not the cause, in fact, if it did contribute to soreness, it would at the end of the list. The main cause is from micro trauma to the muscle tissue itself. You see, when the level of training exceeds the contractile strength of the tissue, tiny tears occur in the muscle. When this happens, there is an inflammatory effect and the body sends out chemicals(bradykinin and prostaglandins)to cause sensitivity to the nerves endings. These two things together cause that familiar pain that every athlete is intimately aware of. Simply stated, Lactic Acid is the byproduct of anaerobic (without oxygen)metabolism. It is the one of the main limiting factors in how hard we can push during intense exercise. As it builds up in the muscles, it directly interferes with the muscles ability to contract and when it reaches a certain threshold, muscle failure occurs. This is a beautiful safety mechanism because if were not there, we would be able to keep pushing until something snaps or breaks. The body is designed perfectly to keep increasing it’s ability to do more and more but it is also wise to listen to it when it tells you when you have had enough. Push into that familiar burn, it won’t kill you, however, It is a good idea for beginning athletes to find out where that threshold is early on, those who don’t find out that puking is just past the point they should have stopped. The more you train, the better you learn how to dance at that threshold to help accelerate you power, strength, and speed. I will get into topics like anaerobic threshold in later more detailed articles. This one was just to clear up some misconceptions, so if you are in a conversation and you here someone say that they are sore from Lactic Acid, either let them know what you learned here, or just smile. Here is to all your success now and in the future and check back often for more information.

Organic Greens Superfoods for Optimal Health

Monday, February 16th, 2009

Protocol Supplements is dedicated to bringing all who come to this site the highest quality in all of the products we offer, and our Organic Greens Formula is no exception. Since this is nutrition derived from organic greens and fruits, all the cells of your body will gobble them up because it is nutrition that your body recognizes as REAL FOOD, not some synthetic facsimile that has no vitality or life force to add to your overall goal of optimal health.

Click here to order your Organic Green Super Foods.

I know I beat you over the head with the whole “organic”, thing but you have to understand that if it is not in the soil, it is not in the food. Reputable organic farmers make sure that soil is vital with the right minerals, but also the correct bacteria in the soil to bring it back to life. Does that make sense? Let me say it another way, if the soil is not alive and vital, than the food grown in that soil is not either. That’s as plain as I can say it. Do yourself a favor and only put the best ingredients in your body. Your worth it.

This product really agrees with my system vs. other multi’s I have tried. Don’t know if it’s the fact that it’s liquid or that the amounts of each vitamin are reasonable (not mega amounts of anything).

Definite lift in mood and energy. This is saying a lot from someone who has tried hundreds of products, very few delivering much of a difference!

Body Pro-Stength and Muscle

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Discovered in 1996, L-laxogenin, Body Pro-Strength and Muscle, was proven to possess an anabolic/androgenic ratio reminiscent of perhaps the most efficient anabolic substances, in particular Anavar. The amazing thing is that laxogenin is without side-effects of liver toxicity and users do not test positive for steroidal substances. This product is a plant sterol and primarily helps plants survive drastic or harsh conditions.

If you are an athlete you may look for strength improvements in as little as 3 to 5 days and muscle mass increases in as little as 3 to 5 weeks. You can put on extra lean muscle and keep it. No other product has been designed to do exactly this without the use of steroids. Imagine a 200% increase in protein synthesis.
This aids in lean muscle mass and accelerated repair.

When you restrict your calories this product will also accelerate the reduction of fat in your body as it also seems to balance the cortisol response. This of course also helps recovery and reduces muscle wasting. Due to the fact that laxogenin may help regenerate the healing process by 10 fold, it is being tested for fistula repair, knee surgery, shoulder repair and a functional anti-aging product for the whole body.
Laxogenin then is both preventative and regenerative.

Laxogenin acts as a catalyst for every glandular function in the body so it is important to put good nutrition into your body. Let Protocol Supplements be your guide and support in acheiveing your lifestyle, fitness, and competitive goals and desires.
